Infernal Cakes/Adjacent Manias

Infernal Cakes/Adjacent Manias is a performative event that integrates frantic bakery themed video games, the live-telecast sporting event, and the transformation of movement and ceremony across class, including the square dance and its relationship to parlor dances like the Quadrille, and the evolution of the cakewalk from a lampooning of plantation society dances into a county fair ritual game of chance. Formed is an entirely new multimedia folk-ritual-sport-dance-game that explores gender and power relationships in various forms of competitive media through its various constructions and configurations.

Infernal Cake Mania”, the central movement from the performance, was first performed for Low Lives 4, International Festival of Networked Performance Art in March of 2012. The piece in its current entirety was first performed at Zeitgeist Multi Disciplinary Arts Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, in November of 2012; and then at the Essex House in Miami Beach for Light-Assembly / Verge Art Miami Beach in December of 2012.
